TRIBUTES
Judith was such a brave and strong person with the most thoughtful comments in our book club sessions which she attended almost to the end of her of her life. She was cheerful and always grateful with a strong voice that will always resonate with us.
With my love and hope that you are now at peace with our saviour in heaven, your memory will always be with us even when we too are challenged with life’s hard times.

Judith. I can never forget how much you inspired me in my NQT year. You always showed an amazing energy which never faltered. Thank you.

My memory of Judith was as a mother to Margareta and Hugh who I have known since we were at infant school together. The birthday parties that she hosted for Margareta bring back very fond memories of fireworks and syrup rice crispy pyramids as part of a fabulous spread of party food in the veranda of Fairfax road!

Judith, you were really one the most remarkable and brave women I have ever met. It was my privilege to get to know you. I shall really miss our daily chats and will never forget you.

I was privileged to work closely with our dear Judith for many years. She quickly became one of the most committed, professional, and dedicated teachers in our Team. She brought an exceptional quality to our work, getting totally immersed in our sharing and caring ethos. Judith’s commitment to equality and diversity was an integral part of her contribution to education. She made a difference to so many children, teachers, and schools.
The HLS Team appreciated Judith’s support and leadership and, also, loved Judith for her creativity, her poetry, her sense of humour and her songs for all our celebrations. Her amazing ‘Shoes’ exhibit at the Orleans House gallery was only outshone by her PhD! She soon became a key member of our Senior Management Team. Simply to say, my working life was enriched and only made possible, at challenging times, by her help, loyalty, and companionship.
During her illness, these qualities remained, and I loved our get-togethers. From jazz club to keeping company in hospital, walks in Bushy Park, garden chats and, finally, bedside natters. She was always interested in others, so brave and never dwelling on her own troubles. Judith has a wonderful family, to whom she was devoted, and who helped her enormously. We shall all miss Judith very much.
You deserve to be at peace now, but we will never forget you, lovely Judith.

Judith you were one of a kind. I shall remember your stylish elegance and personality to match. You always made time for everyone and there was so much to learn from you- to be active, strong and most importantly approach everything with a smile. Your famous mince pies and mulled wine will be missed and Bushy Park won’t be the same without you.

Judith was a student at Roehampton University for her Reading Diploma, her Master’s degree, and then for her Ph.D which she achieved in 2004. Throughout this time I had the privilege of being her tutor, and she was certainly one of my best students, with her level of commitment plus her wide and deep knowledge of the area. She became a dear friend whom I shall much miss – even thought I didn’t have the chance to see her often after we left London, it was good to keep in touch and know she was there! One of the most memorable people I met in my higher education teaching career of forty years or so!

My Dear Sweet Friend Judith,
A heartfelt little note to express my deepest emotions and love for you.
Our friendship spanned nearly forty years, blossoming in a very close, happy, dedicated and professional partnership.
Following my early retirement, our feelings for each other continued to strengthen, and my family too kept a corner of their hearts reserved especially for you.
It was particularly amusing to witness the friendly and humorous banter between Judith and my late husband, Baber! When Judith was awarded her doctorate, Baber and I went to congratulate her. I still remember him shaking her hand, and with an admiring but mischievous glint in his eye saying “Dr Lawton, I presume?”
Your special chuckle and laughter in response is one of my abiding memories of you, my dear Judith.
As a true and sincere friend and a genuine human being, you have earned this place in our hearts. We have a bond which will never be broken, and the happy memories of our closeness of spirit will forever remain.
May your beautiful soul be at peace in a glorious new abode,
Fauzia Siddiki
Judith was one of four new members of staff who started when I became the Headteacher of Norwood Green 39 years ago. Judith made an enormous contribution to the subsequent success of the school. You were the ultimate professional, always kind, supportive and generous …and so, so much more.
You were a very special human being.
Thankyou Judith

Judith, The times we spent together on your visits to Australia and my visits to the UK are all beautiful memories. The bond and love we developed for each other through those visits, plus your many cards, letters and emails was very important to me and I shall miss you terribly.
Rest In Peace my very dear second cousin.
Love, Barb

Dear Judith, You touched so many lives – as teacher, colleague, friend, scholar, poet, walking companion – and of course, most particularly as a much loved wife, mother and grandmother. You will never be forgotten and the world is the poorer for your loss.

Judith was in our Open Group and we appreciated her enthusiasm, knowledge and her lovely sense of humour. She was very caring, kept in touch with us when we moved up to Beverley and supported Peter when he became less well.
I will remember her with fondness.

Judith was such an inspirational lady who was kind to everyone. She was a great asset to all at Teddington Methodist Church. I will especially remember her beautiful, clear, speaking voice which was so moving at the Remembrance services. Thank you for allowing those of us who couldn’t get to her service, to be able to view it via Zoom. I am honoured to have known dear Judith.

I got to know Judith when we were both studying for our doctorates. It was a joy to meet up with her during that time and, indeed, ever since. Her warmth, care for others and wonderfully individual personality will stay with me always. We will all miss her very much.

An incredibly strong character even in adversity. Judith continued to be interested in others although she was suffering. She kept smiling.
I will cherish the time I had chatting with her
God bless you
