FUNERAL SERVICE
TRIBUTES
“The Sun has set and your light has gone,
I will endeavour for your legacy to live on,
Your six soldiers carry the flare,
Which will shine bright in your name,
The foundation was laid strong,
You’re now where you belong,
Safely in the arms of Jesus may you eternally rest in peace,
Always in our hearts”
Your loving wife Sheila, Sandra & Sue
“To Dad, I will miss your calm intelligence and dry humour. The best cricketer to never play for the West Indies is now playing for his favourite team, after scoring a century under an eternal sun. Thanks for the memories”
Rob
“Dad, I will miss your hugs and the love and kindness you showed us. They have been inspired by you. I loved our in-depth talks about books and hearing your stories about Barbados. Most of all, we will miss your smile. Rest in peace, sweet man. You will be so missed”

Tribute from Family in Barbados
“It is with a sense of sadness and deep bereavement that I pay tribute to our dearly beloved brother Norman. It was indeed a great shock to all of us here in Barbados on hearing of his passing, since two days prior, we had all celebrated him on his 88th birthday and even though it was clearly seen from the short video forwarded to us, that he was not in the best of health, we still did not expect such a hasty departure, especially witnessing him so cheerfully and gracefully accepting all the well wishes being bestowed on him, with him even singing along and managing to blow out the candles on his birthday cake afterwards.”

“‘Norms’ will indeed be greatly missed by all of us in Barbados. During his many visits here over the years, he always made a special effort to pass by and visit Mummy and Daddy (now deceased) and Mummy spared no effort in ensuring that she rolled out the red carpet for him, ensuring that he was well feasted on his favorite Barbadian dishes, (that I’m sure he sorely missed), with Mummy ensuring that her preparations were not too salty or sugary, given his diabetic condition. Believe it or not, when Norms came a calling from jolly ole England, he was treated as if he were arriving from Buckingham Palace!! All the children in the household also adored Norms, since he regaled them with stories about life in England, especially of experiences he had during his stint at the London Transport. Everywhere else he went in Barbados, he was also treated and greeted with respect due to his calm demeanor and at all times jovial manner.
From what I witnessed on my visit to the Jones’ household in Twickenham last November, I could tell that he was well loved by his children and grandchildren and despite his advancing years, was definitely the glue that kept the family close-knit and well stuck together. He was definitely the patriarch of the family.
So farewell to you Norms, you lived a good fulfilling life, in which you had a positive impact on the lives of many, and I think it is safe to say that your living was not in vain.
On behalf of the Smith family in Barbados, I express my deepest condolences to the entire Jones clan in England and even though saddened by his loss, you may however be forever gladdened by all the lifelong memories that would be forever etched in your minds of this great man!!
Rest in Peace Norman!!!”
