Peter was a very good friend of mine. We were initially met as golfing companions. However, golf soon became very much the backdrop to our deep discussions on the truly important things in life and all manner of topics which were dear to mine and Peter’s heart. Peter was a kindred spirit and whilst, of course, I shall miss him terribly, I feel so blessed and inspired to have known him and had the good fortune to have spent precious times with him. I shall forever treasure these times and be so grateful for them.

I worked with Peter during my first job after graduating. He was always so warm and friendly and like a mentor to me. I will always remember his lovely warm smile.
It was a pleasure to have known you Peter, may you rest in peace.

Peter was always so warm and kind, funny and loyal. He always had time to chat with me whenever I bumped into him over recent years. The conversation was always about his beautiful children and how extremely proud he was and always will be of them. We often joked about their great nanny (me) and how that’s why Katie and Dominic turned out so well!! Haha. He would always be interested in how I was and he was so genuine with that. I always walked away from Peter smiling, and feeling so lucky to of worked for his family all those years ago.
I will remember him fondly and miss him and our catch ups.
So much love to Jackie and his beautiful family. Xx

We Davies were very fond of Peter.
I can honestly say that he was very much a ” one off”. Few people I’ve met have his combination of charm, social ease with anybody, from any background, optimism ( regardless of circumstances), and genuine interest in everything around him. He was worldly, yet ” innocent”, opinionated, yet a good listener, proud, yet humble, fairly right wing on his views, yet also very compassionate to those less fortunate.
We always enjoyed our meet ups with Peter, and his visits, which would entail lengthy discussions (often rather dominated), public enterprise, and…of course, football and his beloved Chelsea.. There was nothing it seemed that Peter didn’t have a strong opinion on…!
Peter was a family oriented, loyal and entertaining man…we shall hugely miss him.
Andy Davies
I remember Peter’s gentle strength, his dignified manner. He will be greatly missed beyond the family. Please tell Alex, Dominic and Katy that I share their sorrow and assure them that their father’s spirit will continue to protect and sustain them in all their endeavours.

I feel so sad that I won’t hear any more of Peter’s anecdotes and advice. He was unfailingly supportive whenever we volunteered together and I shall miss his kindness, encouragement, and twinkley smile. Thinking of all his family and friends and sending my sincere condolences. Lindseyxx

I have had the privilege of knowing Peter as a good friend for nearly 70 years. We met when both attended Latymer Upper School. Early memories include when we joined the Royal Observer Corps and were selected to serve in an exercise in one of the Government’s secret underground Regional Seats of Government. We also cycled around most of England staying in Youth Hostels at a cost of one shilling and three pence per night! Later there weekend trips to Richmond for coffee in the Aubergine and a glass of Watney’s Red Barrel in a pub, nights out that gave us change out of half a crown. Those were the days. Peter was with me when I met my wife Angela and organised my stag night before my wedding. We both joined banks after leaving school and then got jobs in Casinos when Gaming opened up in the UK. Peter becoming a senior manager in a major casino group. I knew Peter over the last 7 decades as the most loyal and caring individual . I was privileged to call him my best friend.

When Great Trees Fall
When great trees fall,
rocks on distant hills shudder,
lions hunker down
in tall grasses,
and even elephants
lumber after safety.
When great trees fall
in forests,
small things recoil into silence,
their senses
eroded beyond fear.
When great souls die,
the air around us becomes
light, rare, sterile.
We breathe, briefly.
Our eyes, briefly,
see with
a hurtful clarity.
Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
examines,
gnaws on kind words
unsaid,
promised walks
never taken.
Great souls die and
our reality, bound to
them, takes leave of us.
Our souls,
dependent upon their
nurture,
now shrink, wizened.
Our minds, formed
and informed by their
radiance, fall away.
We are not so much maddened
as reduced to the unutterable ignorance of
dark, cold
caves.
And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.

This poem could have been written for Peter. His loyalty, his courage. His dignity. Peter was a good friend and his life has taught me to live life to the full.

Peter’s unfailing good humour and positive attitude
to life was an inspiration. His gracious acceptance
of his final diagnosis was an example to us all.

Peter was a very inspiring member of the same fellowship that I am in and we were on the same committee. He was always the sensible voice of reason and I admired his healthy recovery. We had good chats and I am very sorry to hear of your loss. With love to you and your families at this sad time.
